No, I haven't!

Although the storyline is a fiction. But Heston's character (Brigham Young)
was a real person. Probably, you can find out some information that you are
interested via the following link

I just ordered this one from the WB Shop. Image http://www.wbshop.com/product/avenging+ ... rom=Search
(there's also a trailer option there)

I've never seen it and the story sounded unusual. It's a western setting but the plot has to do with intrigue and conspiracy in the Mormon community. Here's a partial plot description from the site (any more and it reveals too much):
Quote:
Tom Berenger, Charlton Heston and James Coburn star in this exciting Western adventure which traces the troubled Utah settlement of the early Mormon church. In the 1800s, thousands of Mormons set out on a treacherous trail for the promised land of Utah. Among them was young Miles Utley (Berenger), one of controversial prophet Brigham Young’s (Heston) loyal followers and trained protectors.

I should receive it in about a week or so.

Sort of -- I won't get it by New Year's Day. The WB Shop can be slow with this stuff. I just checked this morning and there appears to be some kind of delay - and it hasn't even shipped yet. So, maybe some time in January... :-?

I think it takes a couple of days extra since it's an on-demand DVD, meaning they print it after you make your order.

I got the DVD a few days ago and finally watched it earlier today. It's not bad; it's a TV film - TNT - so you can't really expect too much, but it's got some ambition and, as I already mentioned, an unusual premise/storyline.

Heston's Brigham Young is the successor to the founder of the Mormon religion, Joseph Smith, who had been assassinated a short time before the story begins. His character is often referred to as a prophet and some of Heston's lines, particularly in the early going, could just as well have been spoken by his Moses character ("..the promised land.."). I guess it was a no-brainer for whomever cast this film that Heston was the natural choice to play Young.

Heston also manages to pull off another stunt that seems prevalent in his later roles - he plays Young as a much younger character in the early scenes, as much as 25 years younger, and it works. He also did a similar thing in The Awakening (1980). His later scenes are played with a white beard, no mustache.
