Here is my choice:

1. Soylent Green

2. Planet of the Apes :ddape:

3. The Omega Man :neville:

4. Beneath the Planet of the Apes

Hi Thorn, look, I've ranked 'Soylent' :soylent: as the highest.

I would also rank SOYLENT GREEN as the first, -- it is the best regarding the human side --the Soylent Company-head's guilt-feeling and confession which makes him a 'man'(Shirl also says that he was a good man, the love and tenderness shared by Thorn and Sol-- all these are very touching even amid the devastating theme of technical and scientific violence on envirinment and mankind.

My second choice would be THE OMEGA MAN-- not for the story , not even for the symbolic Christ-like martyrdom of Neville, but for the fact that it displays the best of Chuck's strength as an actor. For the first half he carries the movie alone on his shoulders and keeps you seat with your backbone straight. I wonder how many actors would have taken such a challenge, and would be successful. In the second half , the cynical lonely man is changed into a tender and caring person, think how he doctored the sick boy, how lovingly he handles the little girl, and he has really been a martyr of love. If he did not try to save the lady half-turned into a zombie, he could have saved himself.

Next comes the POTA. The story has epic- dimensions, and Chuck is also powerful in his performance. The ending is stirring and Apocalyptic. But somehow it lacks the human intensity of feelings,in comparison to my first two choices. Anyway, it's just my viewpoint.

'Beneath the POTA' is the last in my opinion. Two much of satire and grimness... but I could have tolerated that too, if there was not that guy Brent-- what a poor character to step into Taylor's shoes, to be his follower in the adventure!

1. PLANET OF THE APES
2. SOYLENT GREEN
3. THE OMEGA MAN
4. BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES
5. PLANET OF THE APES (Tim Burton version)
6. ARMAGEDDON
7. SOLAR CRISIS

I have seen THE NAKED JUNGLE listed as Sci-Fi in some books. If it is then I would place it at number two behind POTA.

Strange! What could be those books' reason for considering THE NAKED JUNGLE as a Science-fiction movie?

Soylent Green

But, check back in a couple of months and this list could change. I really do go back and forth on these all the time. As the Detective says; they all have a high re-watchability quotient.
