I thought I should start a thread on quotes from this film, if only for the exchange below:

Michelangelo (Heston): "Is my commission at an end?"

Pope Julius II (Rex Harrison): "Of course not. Is that what you thought?"

Michelangelo: "What else was I to think?"

Pope Julius II: " No, no, no. I just wanted people to see what had been done."

Michelangelo: "But my work is-- It's not finished!
------------------ The creation of Adam, it's the heart of the fresco. The Sun and the moon--"

Pope Julius II: "Buonarroti, how many times have I asked you.. when you will make an end?
------------------ And what has your answer been? 'When I am finished, when I am finished.'
------------------ I can wait no longer for the end that will never come."

Michelangelo: "But show my work unfinished? I've never done that!"

Pope Julius II: "You will do so now." Michelangelo: "But why!? Why?!"

Pope Julius II: "Because I order it!" Michelangelo: "I will not obey you!"

Pope Julius II: "Will not?!? Did I hear you correctly? Will not?"

Michelangelo: "Yes. I'll destroy it first with my own hands."

The Pope strikes Michelangelo with his staff. Michelangelo groans, bends at the blow.

Pope Julius II: "I have suffered your insolence for the last time."
