Plot:

A couple of youngish adventurers go into the wilderness of British Columbia in search of a lost colleague. Their plane crashes and they find themselves at the mercy of a crazed old Scottish miner, who has lived in isolation for many decades searching the mountain caves for a chamber of long lost gold. He is prepared to do anything - including murder - to keep his gold for himself.

Because this is one of those Heston films still not on DVD (as far as I know), I've only seen it a couple of times, once in the theater when it first came out and a few years after that on TV. This one has an amazing attempted landing on a lake by a seaplane; I say attempted because the plane does this weird flip and crash into the water. It looks amazing because it's real. The hired real stunt pilot blew it - an error. Because no one was hurt, this was one of the rare times the footage stayed in (usually such filmed mistakes are scrapped). But, this means it actually changed the course of the storyline (the plane was meant to land OK).

Heston has this one scene - played on the previews I'm pretty sure - where he issues a warning to someone, saying something like "You stay the hell away from my mine, laddie." Man, this was Heston in full sinister mode! I mentioned on another thread how Heston improved as he got older and that includes being threatening. The way he says that line just sent a cold chill up my spine back then. I think I went to see this film just because of that previewed scene.

Sweden and, I believe, Spain has this released on DVD. I'm not sure the Spanish version has an english language track (they dub their movies), but the Swedish version does (since we, thankfully, don't dub our movies!) Though the movie appears to have the subtitles burnt in, meaning you can't remove them.

If you have a region-free DVD player, I'd gladly help you out by obtaining one. They go for about 8 bucks here and seem to be nearing Out of Print (some online stores has it as OOP, while some still have it left.)

I do have one of those multi-region players; I have a small collection of PAL DVDs.
Sounds like a good deal, from what you're saying.

Just say the word and I'll order one for you. Not sure what the shipping would be to the States. Probably not more than ten dollars though, if I send it in a bubble-wrapped envelope.

Here's a pic of the cover, BTW:

The Swedish title is "Hett Guld", which translates to "Hot Gold."

OK - I'm for it. Thanks in advance.

We'll iron out the details in PMs I suppose.

Thanks for sharing this song from "Mother Load". It's hauntingly beautiful! I would love to have this soundtrack! Do you know if it's available?

By the way, "Mother Load" has been released to DVD. You can get it at Critics' Choice, on sale right now, for $11.96 (USA). The online site is ccvideo.com. The toll free phone number is 1-800-367-7765. I have ordered from this company before and have had no problems.

Also, in this same catalog, is Charlton Heston's "Antony & Cleopatra" on DVD. This movie was directed by Heston himself. On sale for $11.96.

I believe it was released on LP back in the day. Haven't heard anything about a CD, but you never know.

You're right, they are reaching us on DVD on March 29th. You can see the covers in the following thread: new-charlton-heston-releases-on-dvd-bluray-t11.html

Looks to be solid releases.

I've been waiting a long time for this to come out. I had a VHS tape but I finally wore it out.
